not so long ago I heard Jack Welch (if you don't know who he is - google it!) being asked what's the biggest change and where, which industry, we gonna observer in coming years.... without hesitation he said - BIO-TECH!
instantly Genetically Modified Shit came to my mind but thanks to today's BBC Breakfast edition I understood him... and what he said... and why he said it... a bit better
turned out that;
- it takes 3,000 liter of water to produce 1 kilo of rice
- it takes 15,000 liter of water to produce 1 kilo of beef (yumm!)
not only that!
in 2050 (in all likelihood I am going to be still alive then) we (human beings, habitats of planet called Earth) will need;
- twice amount of food we are producing right now
- we will have the same (or less land) to do it
- and we will have significantly less water to grow green stuff and produce meaty stuff
all this sounds very scary to some but (and now I understand him) not to Jack Welch... he knew all this facts that I just heard today and he knew that BIO-TECH is the way to overcome this issue....
and, if am not mistaken breakthrough will happen sooner then you may think...
because of all that (see above) I will;
- not stop eating rise, i love rice.... with virgin olive oil and Parmesan cheese!!!
- not stop eating beef... NO WAY!!!
instead I will;
- invest all my money in BIO-TECH companies!
my guess is that sooner, rather than later, they will come up with technologies to produce green stuff (and meaty stuff) that will feed starving Africa, Asia and few malnourished kids in Western Europe... this stuff will be cheap to produce, healthy, safe, and resistant to viruses, diseases and other plagues...
so what that currently public opinion is oppose to GMO and all that shit!... 10 years from now we will not be thinking in a way we are now... don't believe me.... have a look who you were and what you were doing (hint: see it as how much changed since then) just 10 years ago;
in 2005 we were;
- renting DVD's from Blockbuster
- buying CD's
- some of us were showing off with iPod mini
- using flip phones
- using MySpace
- we were not letting others use our mobile because of "minutes"
- offended and shocked by word "metrosexual"
- and we all had digital camera... (not the one in your phone!)
- and Facebook was only 1 year old, you probably did not hear about it at that time yet.....
in 10 years from now.... can you imagine how changed world is going to be.... you probably can but still, whatever you imagine now is not going to be even close to what reality will bring.... 10 years from now we will not recognize ourselves as we are now.... but...
whatever future brings - i may as well make few quids while waiting for future to surprise me.... for now BIO-TECH gets my vote...... and some of my money.... (bot don't tell anybody... I do not wish to share my future fortune with too many!)
